General Objective of the Department:

The Department primarily aims to build and update a geospatial database for the municipality’s regions and departments, where the latest technologies are used to collect, classify, audit, analyze, develop and preserve this data, thus making it available to decision makers at all levels. It is provided to all departments, whether executive, planning, regulatory or legislative departments. It is also provided to government departments and institutions, security agencies, the private sector, students and individuals, according to the needs of each party, its specialization and the powers granted to it in accessing data.

TasksGeographic Information SystemsDepartment :

  1. Building a base map for the city of Madaba, and updating the geographical layers related to the work of the municipality’s departments and regions.
  2. Producing maps and plans, and providing Madaba’s departments and regions with them, in addition to photos.Satellite.
  3. Preparing geographical (spatial) analytical studies.
  4. Developing geographical applications for the work of the municipality’s departments and regions.
  5. Managing and following up on the Madaba Geographical Explorer and the geographical portal.
  6. Providing government institutions, security agencies and the local community with geographical data and plans, especially students. Universities for graduation research.
  7. Participation in preparing the strategic, development and investment plan.
  8. Awareness of the geographic information system (GIS) by holding foundational and specialized courses for employees and university students.
  9. Preparing agreements and exchanging information with external departments and institutions, especially with the Greater Amman Municipality, which is the main supporter of the department.
  10. Management and operation of the development tool.
  11. Completion of the project to build a comprehensive database.
  12. Implementation of the naming and numbering project for the Kasbah and districts in coordination with the Directorate of Organization and Planning.
  13. Implementation of the municipal observatory project (Urban Observatory), which monitors the urban reality of the city of Madaba according to the following data:
    -Calculating the values of urban indicators approved by the Urban Observatory.
    -Preparing special analytical studies and reports. In the areas of development and measuring the level of performance in the areas of sustainable development, through analysisIntegrated to the current situation, and developing plans to implement projects in all aspects (environmental, social, construction, and infrastructure).

    -Preparing and publishing statistical reports, including the values of Madaba’s urban indicators, local indicators, statistical analyses, and inter- and standard comparisons.

    -Providing decision makers and those interested in planning with statistical reports. The necessary analytical approach in order to reach a scientific approach based on sustainable planning in implementing projects in the municipality.

    -Conduct field surveys through the Observatory Department’s crews, represented by social and economic researchers, to identify problems in all urban aspects, and present urban indicators to decision-makers and planners.

    -Design the necessary databases through advanced software such as ORACLE It is characterized by a high level of security in preserving information and giving the necessary powers to the work team and users.

    -Cooperating with all local and international bodies in obtaining accurate and up-to-date data about the city of Madaba.
  • Producing local indicators that reflect the specificity of the place.
